Getting Here and Away

The two main airports in Tanzania are Kilimanjaro International Airport (Airport Code JRO), and Dar Es Salaam International Airport (Airport Code DAR). For going on safari in the northern circuit or for climbing Kilimanjaro, you will save time by arriving at JRO. For visiting the southern and central parks, Dar es Salaam is your best bet. If the airline ticket to Dar es Salaam is hundreds less, you can easily catch a local flight between Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro or, if you are feeling more adventurous, take the bus. Both of these can be arranged by our company.

Passport and Visas: Most of visitors require visas with the exception of citizens of certain countries of the commonwealth. You can obtain a visa from the Tanzanian embassy or consulate in your home country.  You also have the option of getting your visa when you land at the airport in Tanzania. The price is the same either way. Americans pay $100 for a visa and all other countries pay $50. Also they can be obtained on arrival at the International Airports.

Health

There are a number of vaccines and medications that are recommended to have when visiting Tanzania. Tanzania no longer has Yellow Fever so a vaccination is no longer required (unless you are coming from an area where it is endemic). It isn’t a bad idea to get, however. Most other travel vaccines are recommended before coming. Anti-malarial medication is also highly recommended as malaria is still a reality in our country. There are various options for this and you should discuss these with a travel clinic before you leave. Make your appointment with the travel clinic early so that you have time to get all necessary vaccines and medications before you go. . Insect repellant and sunscreen is also a must.
